Head-to-Head recently hosted a session focused on Managing Employee Relations and Personal Growth at Netzah International School, bringing together leaders to reflect and strengthen their leadership practice.
Led by Mrs. Charlotte K. Arineitwe, the leaders highlighted the vital role employee relations play in organizational success, stressing the importance of setting clear expectations, explaining key terms in simple language, and providing employees with full contracts and policy packs. Charlotte also outlined essential Employment Compliance touchpoints, including adherence to relevant legislation and company policies, verification of the right to work, ensuring safety and duty of care, proper handling of personal data, and following HR policy and the law during termination processes.
Participants took part in interactive exercises using real-life scenarios to apply these concepts, particularly around contract formation. One scenario addressed confusion over working hours and the need for transparency and fairness in scheduling. Edith Nakibuka emphasized the value of clear communication and structured scheduling processes, especially in school environments, while Maureen Babu highlighted the importance of giving employees advance notice of their work schedules. Another scenario explored role drift after probation and the need to adapt to changing organizational needs while maintaining clarity of expectations, with Jonan Muhereza stressing the importance of amending contracts to reflect evolving roles.
As a key takeaway, Charlotte encouraged leaders to reflect on critical questions: Are underperformers being addressed in a timely manner? Are issues managed as soon as they arise? Are team workloads reasonable? And are organizations providing adequate support for their employees?
Dr. Ann Mugunga delivered a powerful session on the Importance of Personal Growth. She introduced four key laws of growth: the Law of Intentionality, the Law of Awareness, the Law of Consistency, and the Law of Environment. Dr. Ann invited participants to reflect deeply through thought-provoking questions such as where they want to go in life, the direction they hope to take, how far they can imagine growing, and how long that journey might take. She concluded by encouraging leaders to clarify their goals, confront their fears, and intentionally surround themselves with people and environments that challenge, inspire, and uplift them.
As the day came to a close, members were reminded to register for upcoming Head-to-Head programs, and the session ended with a heartfelt closing prayer led by Jonan Muhereza.
The gathering reinforced the importance of combining strong employee relations with continuous personal growth. Through shared learning, practical engagement, and mentorship, Head-to-Head continues to support leaders in building healthy workplaces, developing resilient teams, and growing both professionally and personally.
