Netzah International School, in collaboration with Head2Head (H2H), hosted a focused session on General School Administration Policies, bringing together education professionals to share insights and explore best practices in institutional management.
A major highlight of the session was a comprehensive presentation by Mr. Jonan Nuwahereza, Principal of Kings Learning Christian Academy, who emphasised the importance of structured policies in guiding leadership and ensuring smooth school operations. He outlined several critical policies every school should have in place, including: the Compliance Management Policy, Enrollment Policy, Finance Policy, Child Safety and Protection Policy, and Conduct/Discipline Policy for students and parents.
Participants actively engaged in discussions around policy development and implementation, sharing practical experiences from their institutions. The session also featured a hands-on policy drafting exercise, where Jonan used a Child Protection Policy from Kings Learning Christian Academy as a practical example. He walked members through essential components such as defining key terms, clarifying roles and responsibilities, establishing reporting mechanisms, and ensuring confidentiality, victim support, and transparent approval processes.
The group further explored common challenges in policy implementation. Ann Mugunga noted that many staff members do not take time to read and fully understand existing policies, while Jonan raised concerns about policy erosion over time. Alex Nsimbe suggested that institutions should consistently refer staff to relevant policies when addressing issues such as leave requests, helping reinforce awareness and compliance. Malikis highlighted the importance of accountability during policy drafting, and Brenda emphasized that excluding staff from the policy-making process often leads to resistance and low ownership.
Reaffirming its commitment to strengthening school governance, the Head2Head team emphasised the importance of equipping educators with practical tools to enhance administration and leadership. The session concluded with renewed purpose and shared appreciation for well-structured policies as a foundation for effective management and the future of education.
